If you want to keep your friends...

Don't know if you've seen this video yet: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LPG25Wf0aa4
but it's pretty thought provoking to say the least. This is a huge election for our country and state. Sometimes I think that here in California, Prop. 8 is as big of a deal as who gets to be our next president.

Let me know what you think. Let's get some dialog going.

Evan,
Thanks for the link. I posted it on my facebook. Excellent parody.

I've seen videos like this for both democrats and republicans. Certainly its funnier when it's poking fun of the "other" party but in someways I find it frustrating. While they are not meant to represent the whole of the party or the individuals within the party, they imply some generalizations and streotypes that only seems to divide people more. Many people understand this, but a lot of people take these videos a little more at face value than they should. I think if people would dialogue about the videos and what the mean, what they agree or disagree with... they'd be effective in adding to the discussion. But so many times during election period I get these videos sent by a few individuals who just forward it on without a second thought to the content or the attack on the party itself. Usually accompanied by a quick one liner about how they agree or this is good implying they think it's true.
As a democrat myself, I see the humor in it but hope that people understand that individuals don't all think the way the video is portrayed. That is partly a reminder for myself as well because I have to remember that people in the Republican party are individuals and have their own reasons for voting the way they do--some good, some bad (anyway people vote) but if I generalize I just as wrong as someone else who thinks that because I'm a democrat I'm voting one way or another without any thought to my reasoning behind it. So funny video but also could be dangerous. I tend to like ones that equally make fun of both parties:) like some of them on jibjab.com ( I can't get to the link at the momement).

Hi Evan,
Haven't checked your blog in awhile...Retirement is just TOO busy!!! lol
GREAT picture of you guys at Belmont park!! Love it!
Prop 8?? What's that? Up here in Washington we have Euthanasia props etc.:-) Yep Ann & I have already voted...we're official Washingtonians now.

So yeah the video... I couldn't help but think of Jim Wallis' response to the current material coming from Focus on the Family
http://www.sojo.net/blog/godspolitics/?p=3283&title

Seems to me that somewhere along the line we American Evangelicals have forgotten that the world, and yes America, is "Vanity Fair". We have been called OUT of the world, and have not been called to reform it, but simply to cast our one vote as citizens, and continue on our pilgrimage to heaven and "let the dead bury the dead"

IMO...Paul

Well, Ignorance is a virus in our education system, as
well as our culture and is clearly shown by these actors in this video
reciting the script.

It's too bad that because of the last 8 years at least
this nation has become so dumbed-down by the corporate
media and the failed 'no child left behind' policy. It is just
is very sad to see such ubiquitous vitriol coming from
such a large portion of the conservative culture!!

These are great comments, just what I was hoping for. Shannon makes a good point in that ideally, we should see videos like this that poke fun at both sides equally well so we all see our shortcomings.

Just remember my friends, no elected official is the answer to our problems. God is still in control no matter how hard we try to mess everything up.

Here's one for you, Evan...

This goes to show the ignorance out there - but it is on both sides. I still think voters should have to take a test before being allowed to vote. Just my 2 cents. :)

Yet another good link from Paulla, thanks. You guys should check it out.

It does show that (at least with those interviews) there is an anti-Republican backlash and "lets-vote- for-Obama-primarily-because-he's- not-McCain" mentality out there.

Although we have differences in culture, but do not want is that this view is the same and I like that!
