Micah doing what any two year old should do, goin' crazy with the cake!
Halloween Fun
I'm thinking that next to Christmas, Halloween might just be the holiday my kids dig most. They literally squeal with excitement as they run from house to house in their costumes. And of course, we being the responsible parents we are walk along behind them telling them not to run, almost like, “Don’t have any fun.” The best thing about Halloween this year was to see my boy’s generosity as they gave a bunch of their candy to Nicolas our neighbor, who had to stay home last night with an ear infection.
Best time of year
As the poster on the wall behind me says, the "endless summer" is certainly a fun way to look at life. We don't quite have an endless summer here, but Fall sure is a great time of year. We've still got warm weather, the surf should start picking up soon and the water is not too cold yet. I also enjoy the fact that I can still wear my flip flops without my feet getting too cold in the office. In this photo at the top of the page, taken in 1955, we see the early days of the G & S crew. Left to right, Larry Gordon, Skip Frye, Steve Jenner, Carlos Andrade, unidentified, Larry Estrada and Skip Wright.
Stuff I've written/contributed towards
I had the privilege of writing one of the chapters for this book: The Voice of Acts: The Dust Off Their Feet: Lessons from the First Church. It is available from Thomas Nelson Publishers. This is a book that takes a look at the first church in Acts and draws lessons for our church life today. My dream is to parlay my thoughts from this chapter into an entire book that draws parallels between the birth of the church and the birth of surfing in California. Now I just need to learn the discpline of a writer to get 10 or 12 more chapter written.
The Lauer boys
I'm making this side of the blog the personal section. I'll try to update family photos here regularly. This will be primarily for those of you who don't see us that often. I apologize in advance for not having any current pictures of LilyAnna to include here. She is not quite old enough to take camping yet and I tend to snap photos of the boys when we are at the beach.

LilyAnna
It really is amazing (to me at least) that we have a girl in the house now, that is besides Kelley. So, she gets her own special photo on the blog. She'll get lots of special stuff over the years, and I'm ok with that. She is the only girl after all. Notice the fancy photo studio, she's on a towel on the kitchen table. It's the "Dad's quick photo" set up.
About Me
Evan Lauer
I am blessed to be married to Kelley for 19 years. We have five children, four boys and our first girl, LilyAnna who is three months old. I love spending time with my wife and kids. I also enjoy being the pastor at Coastlands Church in Pacific Beach, Ca. I am blessed with so many great friendships and relationships through this church. I love the ocean, surfing, and consider it a religious experience every time I get into the ocean. The ocean is big like God, hard to fathom, yet I can be a part of it, just like my relationship with God.
For all you guys out there over 30 and under 50. (Sorry for the small size of this comic, the punch line is, "Middle age sucks, lets build a fort." I can relate and having four young boys helps me stay young. Soon to come to my site, a video of myself and my two oldest boys jumping off the roof into the pool, that is if I can figure out how to add a video to this blog...as well as pull it off unbeknownst to my worried wife. I got a call from Kelley this morning asking me if I had given the boys permission to jump off the top of the slide into the pool. What was I going to do, lie and tell her no? Ahh, the beautiful differences in Mom and Dad. Kelley also tried to once again confirm if I do indeed let the groms jump off the roof into the pool...I just let her vent her disagreement on that one 'cause we ain't about to stop that fun stuff. Sorry Kel...
Kid stuff
Somewhere on this blog there just has to be some Spiderman stuff. Believe me when I tell you that this is only a small representation of my collection. I have literally been collecting Spiderman stuff for 37 years. Yes, I've been collecting stuff long before the three Spiderman movies came out. In fact, I can't even keep up with it all today. As great as it is to see all the Spidey stuff out there, I have to admit it almost cheapens it. It's like Spiderman has prostituted himself out to the masses. Now I just have to be more picky with what I choose to collect!
